The Museum is now open

Friday & Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 P.M

April through November.

Downs-Aldrich House

Built in the 1890s by J. E. Downes, this imposing two-and-a-half-story frame house is a combination Queen Anne and Eastlake styles.

Monroe-Crook House

This elegant Greek Revival house was built in 1854 by a grand nephew of President James Monroe.

Houston County Lake

Location: On Little Elkhart Creek (Trinity River drainage), in Houston County 10 miles northwest of Crockett, Texas.

This small 1,282-acre lake is proud of its "Big Bass" records, and offers camping cabins. swimming, and a marina.

Mission Tejas State Park

Located in Houston County, 21 miles northeast of Crockett and 12 miles southwest of Alto on Texas 21.

Park entrance near Weches on Park Road 44.  The site of Texas' first Spanish mission. Activities include camping, picnicking, hiking and fishing. A pond located near the picnic area offers an excellent opportunity to explore aquatic life and fish. Hiking and nature trails provide access to the natural beauty of the East Texas Pineywoods. The dogwoods are beautiful the last week or so of March, usually around the 25th.

Camp Street Cafe

Camp Street Cafe is a small music venue in downtown Crockett that provides a range of music for East Texas, including country-western, Irish folk, and blues.

Caddo Mounds

The “Caddo Mounds State Historic Site.” were recently devastated by a horrific tornado that leveled the museum.  It is currently closed and under reconstruction but will be up and running again soon.

Piney Woods Fine Arts Association

Crockett is also home to the “Piney Woods Fine Arts Association.” This is a non-profit group dedicated to promoting performing and visual arts to Houston County. Some notable past performances include The Temptations, Willie Nelson, and Pat Green. Aside from their excellent musical lineups, the association presents a number theatrical plays.
